Sweeney Todd Continuing To Wow Local Audiences

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street is continuing to wow local audiences after organisers revealed that this Friday and Saturday’s shows have sold out.

A bunch of us across the spectrum of the day on KCLR were at the opening night on Sunday for what is Kilkenny Musical Society’s 42nd annual production, a huge milestone mark for any local company.

A serious hat tip to Kevin Reade in the role of Sweeney Todd and Castlecomer native Sarah Brennan as shrewd Mrs. Lovett, two terrific performances from two fine local actors. Strength in depth too is a key element for large musical performances and the chorus, especially vocally, are a force to contend with.

Following hot on the heels of 2014’s production of Bryan Flynn’s Michael Collins: A Musical Drama, Sweeney Todd is Kilkenny Musical Society continuing to push the bar and boundary in musical theatre and is a credit to all those involved in the production from front of house to the stage door.

With limited tickets available for Wednesday and Thursday evening, you’d do well to get along and catch the show.
