The Taoiseach has pledged the full support of the State to those affected by the deadly arson attack in Waterford city.
Four members of the English family, Philip and Kim with two of their children Jayden and Callum, died in Tuesday’s early morning blaze at their home in Birchwood, while two other children remain critically ill in hospital.
Speaking on the sidelines of an AI summit in Dublin yesterday, Micheál Martin praised the emergency services for their response to the tragedy, saying; “We as a Government will ensure that the full resources are behind An Garda Síochána, all the resources in terms of counselling and supports are in the area to help children, classmates and so forth, and I want to thank the first responders for dealing with what was a very traumatic situation for them as well, they have families and so on and no one likes to be confronted by that on any morning”.
Added to that there were emotional scenes at last evening’s Vigil held at the Sacred Heart Church where hundreds gathered.
A GoFundMe set up has raised close to €50,000 (more on that here).
The Garda investigation is continuing.
