Taxi driver assaulted after being set upon in Kilkenny city overnight

A local taxi driver is recovering today after he was set upon and assaulted in Kilkenny city overnight.

He was making his way through John St when he was flagged down by a group of around 6 people but told them he wasn’t going their direction.

They tried to halt him as he drove away but when he stopped the car and got out a little further on around three of them chased after him and he was badly beaten.

It happened on John Street at around 5 past midnight and anyone who witnessed the attack is asked to contact the Gardaí in Kilkenny on 056 7775000
