Carlow’s Pádraig Amond is hoping to help Waterford end a 46-year wait for FAI Cup glory after they booked their place in next month’s final.
Waterford secured their spot in the decider for the first time in 22 years with a 2-0 victory over Bohemians, with Tommy Lonergan and Noah Mawene finding the net.
They’ll face Derry City in the final after Michael Duffy scored twice in a 2-0 win away to Galway United on Saturday.
Waterford last lifted the FAI Cup in 1980, and Amond believes it is time for the club to add another name to the roll of honour.
“That is too long for a club of our size. We are in it now, we need to go on, and now we want to go win it.
“It’s cliché, but it’s all about the next game. Forget about this week, we park that and sort out our league position, and we will have a hell of a game to look forward to.”
Before turning his attention to the cup final, Waterford must focus on their league campaign, with Amond stressing the importance of taking things one game at a time.
The Carlow native signED a new contract that will keep him at Waterford until the end of the 2027 season.
Amond will now be hoping to play a part in bringing the FAI Cup back to Waterford for the first time in more than four decades.
