The family of 39 year old John Bergin have today confirmed that he was the hiker who lost his life on a Camino walk in Sardinia.
John went missing while on a family holiday with three of his brothers and his sister on Friday afternoon (6th September).
Following an extensive search his body was found on Sunday (8th September).
Mr Bergin had been living and working in Dublin in recent years but was originally from Kilkenny.
His family has in a statement thanked the Emergency Services and Irish Embassy for all their assistance.
They said “we will be forever grateful for the support and love shown to us by the Sardinian people in the past few days”
The family members have asked for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time
