The last programme of July kicked off with John McGuinness TD Chair of the Public Accounts Committee in studio to talk about the possibility of a PAC enquiry into the events leading up to the granting of the Bank guarantee on that September night a few short years ago. He said that if a business was run along the same lines as the country is run it would be bust and that a “Yes Minister” culture dominates the Civil Service. Lovely.

Mark Fielding of ISME was on to talk about his organisations calls for a Retail Strategy Group to address what he called the “ruinous” state of the Retail Sector. Asked for reasons to be cheerful he said that some sectors of the economy were doing well such as light engineering and food but in general he felt we were “bouncing along the bottom” and were likely to continue that way for some time yet !
So far so bleak …..

The new General Manager of Gowran Park Racecourse brought a welcome piece of optimism and enthusiasm to the Show as he talked about the great asset to Carlow and Kilkenny that is Gowran Park. All on the Bottom Line wish him well in his new job and we’re looking forward to covering the track and golf course as it hopefully goes from strength to strength in the years ahead. Gowran Park Chairman Joe Connolly says that Gowran Park is “preparing for economic recovery”. We like resilience and optimism on the Bottom Line.
