The Defence Forces say family open days are an important opportunity to showcase the work carried out by it’s members.

James Stephens Army Barracks held an open day at the facility today where a large crowd attended.

Commandant Steve Byrne says it allows families and the wider community to see what happens behind the scenes.

He says the 3rd Infantry Battalion has strong links with the South East and that opening its doors gives the public a better understanding of the work carried out by its members.

Visitors were able to get up close to tanks, Air Corps helicopter, Navy rigid inflatable boats (RIB), mortar missiles, troop carriers and sniper rifles.
