On this week’s Glanbia Farm Show, Bobby Millar, chairman of the Grain Growers Group spoke of the challenges faced by tillage farmers this year. Bobby also outlined the reasons why all Irish whiskey should be produced exclusively from Irish grown grain.

Des Morrison of the ICMSA outlined the high costs associated with winter beef finishing. He told listeners that the proposed PGI for Irish beef is a positive development as long as it delivers a premium price to producers.

Richard O’ Brien of Teagasc informed listeners of a dairy webinar next week that promotes the reduction of the carbon footprint for milk production.

Paddy Bruton of Forestry Services gave the reasons for the low planting figures this year and outlined the scarcity of timber for a range of uses, which will result in timber having to be imported to meet demand.
