The condition of a road linking Mullinavat to New Ross has been a source of long-standing concern.
Thats according to Fine Gael’s Pat Dunphy whoh says it could become even busier in the event of a proposed wind farm gaining approval from An Coimisiun Pleanala.
The R704 remains a popular route for HGV drivers and other heavy vehicles despite the wider expanses provided by the nearby M9.
Speaking to KCLR News, Cllr. Dunphy said that the road remains problematic despite some recent works. “Up to maybe a year ago, the edges were some part were down a foot its a very dangerous road to be honest, it’s not capable of taking the lorries, even what’s traveling there at the moment.”
“We try to advise lorries to you go down to the M9, down to the end of the M9, go around the bypass and head to New Ross that way, because that road is just not fit for large traffic volumes, it’s not fit for it at all.”
