There has been a 260% increase in domestic violence cases reported to Kilkenny Gardaí since 2019

Tusla has questions to answer as incidents of domestic violence increase across Kilkenny.

That’s according to Councillor David Fitzgerald as he highlights the alarming statistics presented at a recent Joint Policing Committee meeting.

He says a formal request has been made for a Tusla representative to attend next month’s JPC meeting.

Councillor Fitzgerald adds there’s a growing problem of domestic violence in homes across Kilkenny:

“Gardaí gave us statistics on domestic violence, and since 2019 there has been a 260% increase in domestic violence cases reported to Kilkenny Gardaí for the Kilkenny area. While some of that increase may well be down to increased reporting. It does indicate that there is a growing problem of domestic violence in homes across Kilkenny.”
