Students from all over Ireland today marched through Dublin City as part of AMLÉ’s ‘Fund our Future’ protest ahead of next weeks budget.
They are calling for more purpose-built student accommodation, an abolition of the student contribution fee and closing of the core funding gap.
Caithlín Dalton, is from Kilkenny, and acts as the Carer Rep on her Student Council in Limerick. She told KCLR News about the biggest issues affecting students, and what changes she would like to see.
She says that many students like her struggle to access affordable accommodation and are faced with long commutes as an alternative.
“There is no accommodation for students and any accommodation that there is, the prices are jacked up”.
“There are people selling out houses for a thousand euro a month, for a single bedroom”.
“I’d like to see a change in accommodation and options of what you can choose, that way you don’t have to commute. You can have that option of staying in your college’s county”.
