Parade turnout was up this year locally it seems.
The good weather teamed with an array of entertainment appears to have drawn many out to the 15 areas across both counties that were staging St Patrick’s festivities.
Traditional walkabouts were mixed with markets, dog and wheelbarrow parades, duck race and fire shows as musical offerings appeared at every turn.
Carlow Town’s festival proved to be quite the hit, many enjoying the range of fun that was staged – even the fountain at Potato Market was coloured green. While in Kilkenny city organisers say 30,000 people lined the route taken by 1,300 participants.
And at night time key buildings were festively coloured, including the Tholsel (Town Hall), courthouse, Rothe House, St Canice’s Cathedral and Kilkenny Castle.
Despite the increased numbers out and about, Gardaí say there were no major incidents reported.
