A Kilkenny family has seen three members imprisoned after being accused of repeatedly neglecting their animals.
Following an inspection of their home in Callan, County Kilkenny in November 2020, Michael Carthy (53), and his sons William (25), and Thomas (21), entered a guilty plea to charges of neglect.
In November of last year, 23 dogs and 4 horses were retrieved from the premises by Gardaí, the County Council, the (KSPCA), My Lovely Horse Rescue, dog rescue services, and a veterinarian.
Michael Carthy was sentenced to two years in prison for eight counts of animal neglect, contrary to Section 12 of the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013.
His sons William Carthy was given a 21-month sentence and Thomas Carthy was given a 15-month sentence for obstructing animal welfare officers.
They were all banned from having charge of any animals for the next 10 years
