TikTok will face questions from TDs and Senators today over videos showing dangerous and illegal driving.
The social media platform will tell the Oireachtas Media Committee it removed thousands of videos promoting dangerous driving in the first half of the year.
It comes amid concern that online content could encourage or glorify behaviour that puts lives at risk.
Committee Chair and Tipperary North/North West Kilkenny TD for Labour Alan Kelly, thinks platforms need to explain how they’re tackling the problem noting; “Why can’t TikTok ensure that this content never appears online, why can’t they ensure that any other illegal content, bullying content, other forms of content don’t appear online, AI now is so advanced that they can use AI to ensure such content is taken down or it doesn’t even get up there in the first place”.
