Today marks the 32nd anniversary of the disappearance of Imelda Keenan.

The Laois woman was last seen in Waterford city on this date in 1994.

Originally from Mountmellick, the 22-year-old had moved to Waterford city and was living with her boyfriend.

She vanished after leaving her apartment at 1:30pm, walking down William Street onto Lombard Street – the last sighting of her was at the corner of Lombard Street and the Tower Hotel as she cross the street.

Imelda was reported missing by her brother Edward the following day.

Superintendent Gavin Hegarty said: “Imelda, 22 years old and originally from Mountmellick in Co. Laois, was a resident of Waterford city while pursuing her studies when she disappeared without a trace. Imelda was known for her quiet demeanour, her love of music and her strong family ties. Despite extensive investigations spanning 32 years, the silence surrounding her fate remains unbroken. We continue to urge anyone with information or the ability to assist our investigation to come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardaí at Waterford Garda Station on (051) 305 300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

Meanwhile, another brother of Imelda’s, Gerry (who was among those in Kilkenny in November to attend a ceremony to mark the 30th anniversary of the disappearance of Jo Jo Dullard) says; “It’s sortof very disappointing for the family to think that after 32 years of campaigning that we still can’t get it over the line to class this as a murder case rather than a missing case”.
