A programme for traffic calming in housing estates is to be piloted in Kilkenny.
€50,000 is going towards the project which could see new signage being introduced as well as the possibility of engineering measures like speed ramps in estates around the county.
Roseann Brennan has been campaigning for measures like these to be introduced since the death of her son Jake in 2014.
Speaking to KCLR News, Roseann says she hopes this will be rolled out nationwide.
Meanwhile Carlow is to receive almost €80,000 in funding for speed limit signage.
It’s part of a €3.6 million allocation for roads in the county which also includes €125,000 for work to maintain and restore bridges.
The funding for signs in Kilkenny however, was just over €18,000 but €200,000 is to be provided to facilitate repair works to five bridges in the county.
Nationally, €1.7 million has been granted to local authorities for speed signage for 2016.
