A second man has now been arrested after a student from Carlow was stabbed on Wednesday night.
It happened at around 11 o’clock on John Street in Waterford City.
The 18-year-old man from Carlow is a first-year student in Kildalton College in South Kilkenny and was on a night-out in Waterford when a row broke out.
He got into an altercation with two men while queueing outside a nightclub on John Street and was stabbed a number of times in the stomach.
He was taken to University Hospital Waterford where he underwent surgery yesterday and is recovering in hospital today.
At 6.30 yesterday evening a 19-year-old man was arrested by Waterford Gardaí for assault causing harm.
This morning a second 19-year-old was arrested in County Kilkenny and taken to Waterford Garda Station.
Both are currently being questioned.
Gardaí say they’ve appointed a Family Liason Officer to the victim.
