A woman in her 70s has died following a two-car collision in Slieverue in Kilkenny yesterday evening.
The crash happened on the N25 at Luffany at around 5.50pm yesterday.
The driver of one of the cars, a woman in her 70s, was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene.
The body of the woman was removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford, where a post-mortem examination is due to take place.
The driver of the other vehicle, a man in his 30s, and a female passenger in her 20s were taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The N25 road remains closed this morning between the Luffany Roundabout and the Glenmore Roundabout to facilitate an examination by Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.
Speaking to KCLR News, local councillor Fidelis Doherty reflected on the sense of sadness in the community this morning, stating that “Its with great sadness that we hear the news of a lovely lady who passed away following an accident on the N25 yesterday evening. Sympathy to her family, her husband and children, her many family members, and the community in Tullogher, and may she rest in peace. It is a great sadness for all of us, and for the family in particular.”
