Work on a new fire station for Graiguenamanagh is set to begin next year.
Grant funding in excesss of 1 million euro was approved for the project back in September and the contract has now been awarded by Kilkenny county council.
Plans for the new station were submitted back in 2008.
Its hoped construction will start in the second half of 2016 with the new state of the art fire station expected to be open for business early the following year.
