Young people visiting the Stripe Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition today are being urged to vote in the first ever Democracy and Election Awards.
Attendees at the exhibition are being encouraged to pre-register now to vote in future Government elections.
There are projects representing seven schools in the Carlow and Kilkenny area in this year’s event at the RDS.
It runs at Stand 121 until the 10th January and is in collaboration with An Coimisiún Toghcháin – that body’s Chief Executive Art O’Leary says registering to vote doesn’t take long, noting; “It’s so simple in the time that it takes to boil a kettle while you’re waiting for your morning cup of coffee you can register to vote, it takes two minutes and fifty seven seconds on checktheregister.ie, all you need is your PPS number, your name and address, date of birth and Eircode and then you’re done, it’s a job that can be done and 16 and 17 year olds can pre register to vote so that they’re automatically added to the Register when they reach the age of eighteen”.
