The Severe Weather Group at Carlow county council is meeting around now in Carlow to assess the conditions on the counties roads.
All priority-1 and prority-2 roads in Carlow and Kilkenny have been gritted this morning but conditions are still treacherous and everyone is being asked to avoid unnecessary journeys.
Kilkenny Director of Services Tim Butler says while every effort is being made to make sure the roads are safe many smaller local roads have not been salted so if you have to go out make sure to plan your journey and drive safely.
Local Gardai are warning all road users to use their lights to make sure you’re visible in the white-on-white conditions.
The Johnstown, and Johnswell areas as well as the Graignamanagh to Thomastown road are particularly bad at the moment as well as Kilkenny City where the council are also advising pedestrian to be careful on the footpaths.

There are also delays on Trains services due to points failures.
There’s a status orange low temperature weather warning in place for the whole country.
Freezing temperatures between minus 2 and minus 8 degrees are expected tonight.
Alan O’Reilly from Carlowweather.com says the snow will start to lift in the next couple of hours but it could get even more dangerous later.
