This June Bank Holiday weekend’s already seen three people across Carlow and Kilkenny arrested for driving under the influence.
Local Gardaí have been out in force with patrols and checkpoints, as roads are set to get busy over the next few days with inter-county travel.
Paul Donohoe is the Roads Policing Inspector for the Carlow Kilkenny Division.
He says their operation’s been very intense so far.
“We started yesterday, so we’ve been very busy since then. We’ve arrested two drug drivers in Kilkenny, and one drunk driver in Carlow” he shard with KCLR News. “That’s three arrests already, so we want to remind people that, although they want to be travelling around this weekend, you cannot ever drink and drive or take drugs and drive because you’ll run the risk of being arrested.”
16 mandatory testing checkpoints were carried out yesterday (Friday) across Carlow and Kilkenny, and Inspector Donohoe says there’ll be more to come over the coming days.
“Our man aim is to reduce serious injuries and we don’t want any fatalities in our division or in the country, so that is our main focus while we run this Bank Holiday operation” he shared. “We are out there in force this weekend and we’d ask people to be safe on our roads”
