At least nine ring buoys were removed from their fixed housing on the banks of the River Nore in Kilkenny City over the past week.
This is a source of huge frustration to Kilkenny City Councillor Joe Malone, who has issued a public plea for the ringbuoys to be left where they are meant to be in the event of an alarm being raised.
Speaking to KCLR News, the Fianna Fail Councillor recalled a near mishap of his own by the river recently.
“I was down here two weeks ago and I nearly actually slipped into the river myself and the one was wrapped around a tree and I’m beside it here now and it’s still there but the tree fell down.”
“You know and somebody could come down along and maybe think that they could go in and get it but please don’t do that. Report it to the council, the environment section and if they do see people damaging them or taking them out, report it to the Gardaí, simple as, because it’s scandalous.”
