A teenage boy remains critically ill in hospital following yesterdays crash in Carlow that claimed the life of his friend.
16 year old Éamon Kavanagh from Myshall was killed when the car he was driving crashed into a wall near the Nine Stones at Mount Leinster shortly after 5 o’ clock yesterday morning.
The tragedy comes just days after his parents were sentenced on animal cruelty charges at Carlow court.
The 4 passengers were all taken to hospitals in Kilkenny and Waterford – one has since been transferred to the Mater Hospital in Dublin where he is fighting for his life.
Gardaí, meanwhile are still appealing to anyone who saw the car, a dark Audi A4 saloon, driving in the surrounding areas in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Inspector Audrey Dormer says if someone saw the car before the crash happened, they’d probably remember because it’s such a rural area.
Éamon Kavanagh was a 3rd year student at Borris vocational school in Carlow.
As students returned there this morning after their mid-term break, the school says it has implemented its critical incident management plan.
Counsellors from the National Educational Psychological Services are to assist and advise staff in their efforts to support the students following the tragedy.
