A further 611 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the Republic along with five deaths.
218 of the cases are in Dublin, 63 in Cork, 60 in Donegal, 35 in Galway and 31 in Kildare – the remaining 204 are spread across 21 counties.
50% are associated with outbreaks or close contacts of a confirmed case, while 83 are community transmission.
There’s no indication of how many new cases have been confirmed in Carlow or Kilkenny on Monday, if any.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan says he’s “deeply concerned” about the latest figures.
He claims today’s figures suggests that conditions have worsened since Sunday evening, when NPHET recommended that the entire country be moved to level 5 of restrictions.
Speaking about Sunday’s meeting, he said; “We took the decision, not for the first time, to meet out of cycle because of what we’d seen in terms of the changes of the disease… In respect of each of those key indicators that we considered on Sunday, we have seen further deterioration in each one of them over the course of recent days, and we are deeply concerned about the changing path of this infection”
