Some inspiring people and stories on the show this week.
Maria Dollard from Kilkenny has long been advocating for educational provisions for children with autism. She’s involved with the Irish Society for Autism with celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. To coincide with World Autism Awareness Day the group held an international event in Dublin which saw three speakers, who have autism, take to the podium to address those gathered. Key note speaker was Temple Grandin
Martin Nevin is a well known local historian based in Leighlinbridge. He joined us to talk about a new initiative in his area Text Alert, part of a new Muintir na Tire / Community Alert /An Garda Siochana partnership. Local company Pin Point Alert is facilitating the project in the area.
Meanwhile, Martin’s also got a book ‘Leighlin Remembered for the Gathering’ which is due to be launched on May 23rd at 7pm by Rachel Doyle at the Arboretum.
Carlow Kilkenny Fine Gael TD, Pat Deering, also joined us to urge local groups representing people with disabilities to start work on their pre-budget submissions as soon as possible.
Deputy Deering was speaking as he and his colleagues returned to the Dail today following their Easter Break.
He says the estimates from each department will start today because the Budget is being held in October this year.
