On National Slow Down Day, Gardaí ramped up visibility on the roads with extra speed checks and checkpoints to promote road safety. Since 7 am, multiple speed violations have been detected across the region.

In Bagenalstown, three drivers were caught speeding at over 75km/h in a 50 zone, while four drivers were detected driving over 70km/h in a 50 zone on the Castlecomer Road in Kilkenny. In Borris, two drivers were caught exceeding 100km/h in an 80 zone, and three others were caught speeding in a 50 zone in Ballyragget.

In a separate incident, a person was arrested on the M9 after being stopped for speeding, with it later discovered that they were a disqualified driver.

Waterford/Carlow/Kilkenny Divisional Police Inspector, Paul Donohoe, stressed the importance of maintaining safer roads for everyone, emphasizing that such enforcement efforts are crucial for reducing road-related accidents and promoting responsible driving.
