Concern’s being raised about how long the housing order for poultry will last.
The Agriculture Minister Martin Heydon revealed on KCLR last week that one would take effect tomorrow following outbreaks in turkey flocks in counties Carlow and Meath.
Roscommon / Galway TD Michael Fitzmaurice says the Government must give financial support to affected turkey farmers, noting; “It the poultry has to be basically got rid of, the Department of Agriculture needs to come in and help those farmers out immediately with financial compensation, this is their livelihood, they’re at it all their life, this is absolutely no fault of theirs, it’s coming from birds that are spreading it”.
