Fianna Fail Councillor Pat Fitzpatrick has called for Castlecomer and its surrounding areas to be connected to the Muckalee Reservoir, which has provided water to Kilkenny City for over 100 years.
Over ther last number of months residents have been subjected to restricted water notices over the last few months with a new system not expected to be in place until 2029.
Speaking after their monthly meeting today, Cllr Fitzpatrick said that money was being wasted.
“As far as I’m concerned, Uisce Éireann is wasting money and they should be looking at the potential of the supply from the reservoir in Muckalee through Radestown, driving it back to Castlecomer.”
“The piping and everything is in place, even if they have to put new piping that can drive it from Radestown because they’re telling us that they have enough water supply Kilkenny City for the next 100 years from the Troyswood, which sends it across to Radestown, Radestown then sends it back into Kilkenny.”
“That plant in Radestown can drive it out to Castlecomer and we have it solved for once and for all.”
