A new report has found 16 children who went missing from Tusla care in 2023 are still unaccounted for.
Figures released under FOI to The Journal Investigates show almost 7,000 absconded from the State run service between 2020 and September of this year.
It comes in the wake of a series of serious incidents involving children known to Tusla.
The organisation had confirmed to KCLR News last month that four unaccompanied minors were recorded as missing in the Carlow/Kilkenny region between May & July of this year.
Patricia Devlin from The Journal Investigates outlines what it means when a child is deemed missing; “So that’s where a child whereabouts are unknown for 15minutes or longer, you know most of these children are found within 24 hours, but it also raises questions about what the system is doing to help the children absconding so regularly from care”.
