For those wondering why local garda social media accounts have turned neon yellow, there’s a reason.
It’s part of An Garda Síochána’s national ‘Can You See Me Now?’ road safety campaign which aims to improve visibility and protect vulnerable road users.
The 48-hour digital takeover of profile photos, cover images and social banners sets to create a striking visual interruption intended to stop you in your tracks and prompting you to ask why the move has been taken.
The force calls you to Stop, Look and See as so far this year 37 pedestrians, two e-scooter drivers and/or passengers have been killed on our roads with 29 motorbike riders & passengers too meeting the same fate. 14 pedal cyclists too have lost their lives.
There has also been seven fatalities in those aged 81 years and older.
Many fatal incidents happened on weekend afternoons and evenings.
At least eight people have died on roads in Carlow and Kilkenny in 2025.
You can expect more online action on garda social channels today while they advise road users to;
• Use appropriate lighting on bicycles, motorcycles and e-scooters and vehicles
• Drive using dipped headlights at all times of day during the winter period
• Slow down and anticipate vulnerable road users, allow extra space for overtaking on rural roads in particular
• Be extra vigilant during hours of low light
As Ireland enters the darkest months of the year, the message is simple: If you can be seen, you can be safer.
