Hundreds of supporters gathered in Carlow last night to welcome home the county’s Junior Ladies football team.
Manager Ed Burke and his players received a warm reception at Haymarket after an outstanding season.
Carlow’s All-Ireland dream ended with a one-point defeat to Antrim, but the team had a great season winning the National League and Leinster titles.
Carlow County Council Cathaoirleach Tommy Kinsella says the county is immensely proud of the squad and believes they’ll be back competing for All-Ireland honours.
“It was fiercely disappointing for to lose by one point, Martin but the display that they gave from all year, winning the league, I think they created a record by winning, I think, 17 consecutive county games.”
“They got off to not a great start, but they showed great resilience and determination by fighting their way back, and just being beaten by one point like, it’s heartbreaking. There was a very good crowd there at the homecoming last night, and I think the future looks bright. I really want to congratulate the management team. There was an awful lot involved in it, and their panel is very, very young, so I say their day will come shortly. Great thanks to the girls and everyone involved for putting up such a wonderful performance and putting Carlow on the map in their first All-Ireland.”
