A locally based Senator is calling on the Irish government to ‘unequivocally condemn the US military actions in Venezuela.
President Nicolas Maduro has arrived in New York less than 24 hours after being taken from his home – he’s set to face narco-terrorism charges with Donald Trump claiming America will run the south American country.
Social Deomcrats’ foreign affairs spokesperson Patricia Stephenson, who lives on the Carlow Kilkenny boarder, says the actions clearly undermine international law and will further heighten global tensions.
Senator Stephenson believes President Trump’s aggression will add to geopolitical risks in a world already riven by multiple conflicts.
And she adds; “President Maduro’s regime is responsible for brutal human rights violations and the erosion of key democratic pillars. However, extrajudicial kidnapping and carrying out air strikes on Venezuelan territory, in flagrant breach of international law and putting civilian lives at risk, is utterly unacceptable.”
