Gardaí piloting tasers in Dublin and Waterford / Kilkenny divisions yet to fire them

Frontline gardaí­ are yet to fire tasers while on duty, a month after their introduction.

More than 120 officers based at stations in central Dublin and the Waterford / Kilkenny Division have been equipped with the stun guns since the 18th of December.

The pilot comes amid a rise in assaults on gardaí­, however the Irish Times reports up to the end of last week, no uniformed gardaí­ had discharged their taser.
