Kilkenny manager Derek Lyng has received a timely boost ahead of the Cats’ upcoming clash with Limerick, confirming that Fionan Mackessy, Tom Phelan and Padraic Moylan have all returned to training. Meanwhile, Cian Kenny is making good progress in his recovery after picking up an injury against Laois.
Phelan, who missed the entirety of last season, is back involved with the squad and recently featured in a challenge match, another positive sign as Kilkenny continue their preparations for the year ahead.
The Cats travel to the TUS Gaelic Grounds next Sunday to face Limerick, with throw-in at 3.45pm. The game will be broadcast live on KCLR, with coverage sponsored by Laharts Garage, Waterford Road, Kilkenny.
Lyng expects tough game against Limerick and believes these are the types of games his side need.
“Anytime you go down to play Limerick, it’s obviously going to be a huge test of whatever team you put out and the squad as well,” he said. “But we’re really looking forward to all those games this year. That’s how you test yourself, that’s how you get better, that’s how you improve — playing those games and being tested. Each team brings something different to the table and they’ll be no different.”
