Kilkenny manager Derek Lyng has received a timely boost ahead of the Cats’ upcoming clash with Limerick, confirming that Fionan Mackessy, Tom Phelan and Padraic Moylan have all returned to training. Meanwhile, Cian Kenny is making good progress in his recovery after picking up an injury against Laois.

Phelan, who missed the entirety of last season, is back involved with the squad and recently featured in a challenge match, another positive sign as Kilkenny continue their preparations for the year ahead.

The Cats travel to the TUS Gaelic Grounds next Sunday to face Limerick, with throw-in at 3.45pm. The game will be broadcast live on KCLR, with coverage sponsored by Laharts Garage, Waterford Road, Kilkenny.

Lyng expects tough game against Limerick and believes these are the types of games his side need.

“Anytime you go down to play Limerick, it’s obviously going to be a huge test of whatever team you put out and the squad as well,” he said. “But we’re really looking forward to all those games this year. That’s how you test yourself, that’s how you get better, that’s how you improve — playing those games and being tested. Each team brings something different to the table and they’ll be no different.”

For more hurling discussion, listeners can tune in to The KCLR Hurling Podcast. Mickey and Eddie have had extra time to reflect on a strong weekend of hurling and look ahead to the action coming up this Saturday and Sunday.

The podcast also features an interview with TJ Reid, who speaks about his third stint as Kilkenny captain, whether it alters his role within the squad, recent success with Shamrocks Ballyhale, and Henry Shefflin taking over the county’s under-20s.

The KCLR Hurling Podcast is brought to you by Morrissey Motors Peugeot Kilkenny.
