Local Councillor Ben Ward believes that the twinning of Tullow with the Spanish municipality of Maria de Huerva presents a great opportunity for the town.
Until now, Tullow has not been twinned with any town or village, so the formal link-up with the town in the north-eastern province of Aragon represents a long overdue entry into such an arrangement.
Cllr Ward shared his excitement with KCLR News about the new partnership saying; “When we had someone approach us from the town in Spain and they kinda viewed Tullow as the town that was very similar to their town they wanted to explore the opportunities, it’s important that us as a council kindof allow for you know the cultural experiences, the art experiences, the educational experiences for people alongside the key infrastructure and the other essential aspects that we also have this side of it too so I think it’s gonna be a good opportunity for Tullow town”.
He adds; “There’s a man that used to live in Carlow and is from Carlow who’s now living over there in the town and he wanted to have more links between the town he’s now living in and back here in his home county of Carlow and he thought that Tullow was the perfect town to do that so he came to us about it, we’ve had a number of different engagements; a delegation went over to their town and a delegation from there came to us”.
