A defibrillator removed from its cabinet over the weekend was being used in a genuine medical emergency and was not the result of vandalism.
Concerns had been raised after the life-saving device was found missing from its box. However, it has since been confirmed that the defibrillator was taken to assist a person suffering a medical emergency.
The incident highlights the importance of publicly accessible defibrillators, which can play a vital role in saving lives while emergency services are en-route.
The individual was transferred to University Hospital Waterford and the defibrillator has since being replaced in the box for its next use.
