David Herity is set to become head coach of the Kilkenny senior hurling team as Henry Shefflin continues to assemble his backroom staff.
The former Kilkenny goalkeeper is expected to return to his native county after spending the past two seasons as part of Tipperary’s senior management team.
Herity enjoyed a distinguished playing career with the Cats, winning five All-Ireland senior titles before moving into coaching.
Speaking on Off The Ball, Kilkenny legend Richie Hogan believes the success of any inter-county manager depends heavily on the quality of the people around them.
“You see with John Kiely in Limerick and Brian Lohan in Clare. It is not all about the manager, it’s about who the manager brings in, and the people behind them and how they work together as a team.”
Hogan also feels Shefflin’s leadership style has always centred on building a strong collective.
“Any time I have been involved with Henry, mainly as a player, he has always been a massive team-orientated person.”
Shefflin was confirmed as Kilkenny senior manager earlier this week, succeeding Derek Lyng after leading the county’s under-20 side.
🗣️ 'I don't think anyone is expecting miracles!'
🗣️ 'He really wants the job! He doesn't need it, he really wants it!'
🗣️ 'I think it will be more anxiety rather than pressure from the Kilkenny public!'
