Three-time All-Ireland winner Walter Walsh has welcomed the appointment of Henry Shefflin as Kilkenny senior hurling manager and believes David Herity would be an outstanding addition to the new management team.
It has been widely reported that Herity is set to return to Kilkenny after spending the past two seasons with Tipperary, where he helped guide the Premier County to last year’s All-Ireland title.
Speaking to KCLR Sport at the launch of the new Live Score service on the Kilkenny Cats Social app, Walsh said Herity’s coaching record makes him an ideal fit for Shefflin’s backroom team.
“David Herity will be absolutely brilliant.
“He’s proven it with Tipperary and I know some of the Tipperary lads, and I’ve heard reports back from that All-Ireland win last year that David Herity, I think, had a lot to do with that.
“So he’s going to bring massive experience as well. He’s been managing for years now and involved with teams.
“So I think David Herity, I hope he is involved. It hasn’t been announced yet, but we are speculating, and I think he will be brilliant.”
Shefflin was confirmed as Kilkenny manager earlier this week following Derek Lyng’s departure, with attention now turning to the make-up of his backroom team ahead of the 2027 campaign.
Should Herity’s appointment be confirmed, it would see the five-time All-Ireland-winning goalkeeper return to the Kilkenny setup after further enhancing his coaching reputation with Tipperary.
