Public Image Ltd (PiL) and Matt Berninger of The National headline a new boutique concert series in Kilkenny, taking place this weekend along the banks of the River Nore.

Live At Castle Mills will bring a ‘big top’ concert experience to Kilkenny city this Friday and Saturday night, mixing local, national and international acts across both nights.

According to organisers, “the series presents carefully curated artists in an environment designed for comfort, atmosphere and exceptional sound”, offering a “festival atmosphere, without the overwhelm” in one of Ireland’s most distinctive settings.

With temperatures in Kilkenny set to stay in the mid-to-high 20s coming into the weekend and a new temperature warning for the region coming into effect tomorrow, it’s set to be warm one for the outdoor setting.

Gates for both nights are now confirmed to open at 5pm with food and bar facilities on site with the first acts taking to the stage from 6pm each evening.

That honour on Friday night goes to Kilkenny’s Kerbdog, the band celebrating 30 years of their On The Turn album with a select number of gigs taking place over the next few months. They’ll be followed by Northern Ireland rockers Ash, who take to the stage at 7.30pm, before John Lydon and Public Image Ltd (PiL) headline the night with a 9pm stage time.

On Sunday, a staple sound of the 90s in Kilkenny, Engine Alley, open proceedings at 6pm, followed by Cavan native and singer-songwriter Lisa O’Neill at 7.30pm. Matt Berninger, frontman for the Grammy Award-winning The National will make his only Irish appearance this year at with a 9pm start. His appearance – a first in Kilkenny – has already prompted chat about whether he may be tempted to move to Kilkenny outright, albeit that may be a conversation for another year.

Some tickets for both nights are still available from CastleMills.ie and Eventbrite.ie, with The Afternoon Show giving away passes each day this week before a special live broadcast from the site this Friday afternoon from 1-4pm.
