Long-awaited road safety improvement works on the Tullaroan Road look set to be completed by the end of this year.
Green Cllr Maria Dollard had tabled a motion seeking the upgrade in January after consistent concerns from residents and those travelling along the stretch.
Following continued engagement with the Kilkenny Municipal District over the last six months, she’s told KCLR News that she’s now received confirmation that the planned safety works will be delivered by the end of 2026, noting; “Road safety has been a longstanding concern in this area. I brought this motion before the Council in January because residents had repeatedly highlighted the need for improvements. While no single project can remove all risk from our roads, every investment that makes our roads safer is an important step forward.”
She adds; “I welcome the Council’s commitment to delivering these works this year and I want to thank the Roads Section for progressing the project. I also want to acknowledge the local community, whose persistence in raising these concerns has helped keep road safety firmly on the agenda.”
The Green Party representative said she will continue to work with residents and Council officials to ensure that road safety remains a priority across the city and county and comments; “We owe it to every family and every road user to continue investing in safer roads. While this confirmation is welcome, our work to improve road safety must continue.”
The announcement is particularly poignant given the recent fatal road traffic collision in the area and Cllr Dollard notes; “Our thoughts remain with everyone impacted by the recent fatal collision. It has deeply affected the local community, and we remember those who are grieving at this difficult time”.
