Carlow folk/rock duo Asophonics have announced the release of their debut EP Colours Keep Changing, with the self-produced record set to arrive on Friday, July 17th.

The band will be a familiar name to KCLR listeners, with their infectious track Washing Dishes becoming a firm favourite on the airwaves in recent years. Asophonics went on to represent the station and the region in the Hot Press Local Hero competition, where they reached the finals and continued to build their reputation as one of the most exciting emerging acts in the area.

The duo of Aaron Thompson and Sophia Jones have also become regular visitors to the KCLR Afternoon Show with Shane, where their catchy songwriting and energetic performances have won over listeners — including Shane himself, who has been known to sing along to their instantly recognisable tunes.

Blending folk influences with indie and rock textures, Asophonics have developed a unique sound built around intricate open-tuned guitar work, powerful vocal harmonies and deeply personal songwriting.

Colours Keep Changing represents a major milestone for the band, who recorded and produced every track themselves.

Speaking about the project, the duo said:

“The EP has been a complete labour of love (and hate) for us, we self-recorded and produced every single track from start to finish. We’ve poured everything into this project and we can’t wait for you to finally hear it.”

To celebrate the release, Asophonics will begin a run of summer performances, starting with their EP launch show at Ewing’s Bar, Carlow on Saturday, July 18th, where they will co-headline with The Tommy Guns.

The following day, the duo will take to the stage at Forest Fest in Emo Village, County Laois, performing alongside a major line-up of Irish and international acts.

Colours Keep Changing will be available on all major streaming platforms from Friday, July 17th. Physical copies of the EP will also be available at the band’s upcoming live shows.

Asophonics Live Dates:

  • Saturday, July 18th: EP Launch Show with The Tommy Guns – Ewing’s Bar, Carlow
Sunday, July 19th: Forest Fest – Emo Village, Co. Laois
