Carlow County Council is to design and deliver a new cul-de-sac in the Eire Og/Ballinacarrig area before the end of 2027.
The local authority-owned area in question was recently subject to an illegal encampment which led to a considerable and costly clean-up on its behalf.
These works are also expected to facilitate a new housing development which local representatives have sought for several years.
Councillor Fergal Browne told KCLR News the update’s been a long time coming; “We’ve been fighting and arguing the case with the management of the council to open it up for development that hopefully would prevent illegal encampments going forward and obviously bring much needed housing to Carlow town so hopefully developers can lodge applications now for planning once they purchase the lands and we see a supply of housing coming online and it will be a cul-de-sac effectively for a while until we know the exact route of the outer relief road for the town which is due in/around September”.
