Illegal encampment brought to peaceful conclusion

The illegal encampment on lands in Carlow has ended after more than two weeks.

The occupants left the council owned lands between Éire Óg and the Ballinacarrig Road peacefully yesterday after enforcement of a five-day notice in coordination with Gardaí.

The area is now being secured to prevent further unauthorised access, while the council begins a clean-up. The cost of the operation has yet to be assessed.

Cllr Fintan Phelan told The KCLR Daily it is disappointing it recurs on nearly a yearly basis.
