Concern has been expressed by some Kilkenny city residents with regards to works being carried out on a major green space.
The Water Barrack in The Butts area has long served the local community as a pitch, play area or place to take a stroll.
It’s also prone to flooding when the River Breagagh running alongside spills over.
In recent days queries have come into the KCLR Newsroom regarding a different activity on site, that of diggers.
Kilkenny County Council has told us “These works are being carried out to as part of Uisce Éireann’s Growth and Development Programme, a national programme of targeted investment to increase the capacity of water and wastewater infrastructure to enable social and economic growth and development, including the delivery of essential housing.”
They add “Uisce Éireann is upgrading the underground wastewater infrastructure at the Water Barrack to provide a more reliable network and prevent sewer flooding”.
