Tragic nun laid to rest in Mountmellick

Hundreds turned out in Mountmellick yesterday for the funeral of one of the Presentation nuns who drowned tragically in Kerry last week.

67 year old Sr Imelda Carew had taught at Heywood community school aswell as in Durrow and Clonmel and was originally from Dundrum in Tipperary.

She and Sister Paul Buckley both lost their lives when they got into difficulty while swimming on Inch Beach last Thursday evening.

Bishop of Kildare & Leighlin Denis Nulty celebrated the funeral mass for Sr Carew in Mountmellick yesterday.

Sr Buckley will be laid to rest in Cashel tomorrow.
