The ISPCA says the operation to remove hundreds of dogs from a licensed breeder in Carlow is the biggest ever job they’ve undertaken.
More than 300 dogs have now been removed from a puppy farm outside Myshall after it was visited by Gardai and the ISPCA last week.
The councils Veterinary Inspector described the conditions there as a serious risk to public health and animal welfare and subsequently issued a closure notice.
More than 50 dogs were seized during the initial search and a further 248 were taken by the ISPCA last Friday to their centre in Longford to be examined.
They are working now with other agencies to re-home the animals but say the operation is very costly to them as they’ve had to put other animals into boarding kennels while they care for dogs from the Myshall puppy farm.
They’re appealing to locals to help out with the financial side of things and are accepting donations through their website www.ispca.ie.
