A local councillor has expressed strong support for a decision to invest €50,000 in public lighting across various communities in North Kilkenny.
The funding, which has been allocated in the Castlecomer Municipal District, will be used to install new public lights in Muckalee, Coon, Paulstown, and several other communities in the area.
The investment also includes the installation of lighting at Lisnafunchin School, providing much-needed visibility and safety for students and residents in the area.
Councillor Pat Fitzpatrick welcomed the move after the recent monthly meeting, emphasizing the importance of lighting in rural and school zones. “This investment in public lighting is particularly significant for rural communities, where street lighting is often limited. It’s also a welcome addition for families and students around Lisnafunchin School, where the new lighting will improve safety during the darker months,” Cllr. Fitzpatrick said.
The €50,000 discretionary funding will go a long way in addressing concerns raised by local residents, many of whom have highlighted the need for better lighting in rural areas to enhance security and road safety.
The installation work is expected to be carried out in the coming months, with further details to be provided by the local authorities as the project progresses.
