Local star-gazers are being asked to get in touch with Astronomy Ireland if they saw the sky light up last Sunday night.
A large explosion happened at about 8.15 – it’s believed it was the result of a meteorite colliding with Earth and breaking into pieces.

Something similar happened in November 1999 and fragments of that meteorite were found in Leighlinbridge.
Chair of Astronomy Ireland, David Moore says they need people to contact them so they can narrow down the search area..
